Grandma's Poppyseed Cookies

This is a recipe that my mother learned from her grandmother back in Russia. The cookies are very easy to make and have always been a family favorite. I hope you enjoy them,too.

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup sugar
  2. 1/2 cup canola oil
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 1/2 cup poppy seeds
  5. 1/4 cup milk
  6. 1 teaspoon vanilla
  7. 4 cups flour
  8. 4 teaspoons baking powder
  9. 1/4 teaspoon salt
  10. 1 teaspoon cinnamon combined with
  11. 2 tablespoons sugar

Steps

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cream sugar and oil
  3. Add next four ingredients. Mix well.
  4. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt and combine thoroughly..
  5. Divide dough in 1/2. Roll on floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut to desired shapes. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Repeat with other half then combine remaining dough and continue rolling and cutting more cookies until all dough is used. Bake on ungreased pans until golden. Cool on rack.

Pinckney: I want to try this if my P.O.S. JennAire oven ever gets back to functionality. The only seed we like more is Benne... Gullah for Sesame.
