About me

My kids say I can make something out of nothing.
If they tell me there's nothing to eat I can probably find some way to conjour up a treat.

I love flavor and trying new foods.

I belong to the Master Food Volunteers in Louisville Kentucky.
This is a relatively new program the University of Kentucky Department of Agriculture has developed.
In exchange for classes in nutriition, education of food safety and preparation and creative cooking with area chefs and experts we give 30 hours of volunteering.
My volunteer work for this has included working in the Salvation Army kitchen peeling potatoes for huge pots of potatoe soup with Chef Timothy, serving food to the homeless in the food line, etc., this was an eye opening experience.
Working with Chef Nancy preping turkeys for a huge Thanksgiving Feast for homeless. Chopping celery, carrots onions  may I mention here that they had to be cut perfectly....hauling turkeys from the freezer to the kitchen...lots of work here folks.
I also worked with Chef Nancy and Chef Sarah at a wonderful spread The Taste of Kentucky, dishing out samples of chicken and dumplins and slicing the biggest cut of meat I've ever seen.
My last venture was a food demo class for a group of singles at a local church, I teamed up with another volunteer who taught how to make smoothies and I demo'd tortilla rollups.

This has been a great avenue for using my love of food.

The title of this article is Slam Dunk, artfully named by my younger brother who would ask my mother "we having slam dunk again?"

You don't have to be a chef to master Slam Dunk.  All you need is your crock pot and a chuck roast.

"slam dunk" that roast in the pot and cook on low for several hours.   Chuck roast is the best for this, for some reason the other cuts are not as good.
